Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday, 17 November, announced that residents of the state will get delivery of more than 42 citizen-centric services at their doorsteps from 27 November.

Mann made the announcement during the centennial celebration program of the government medical college in Amritsar, saying people will no longer have to run pillar to post to avail these services.

Announcing to develop the state as “a hub of medical tourism” by giving a major fillip to the medical education sector, Mann said that the state government is already making all-out efforts in this regard.

The chief minister further said, “There is no dearth of funds for this purpose and the government will leave no stone unturned for this noble cause. The state has huge potential for this sector and thrust will be laid to ensure that medical tourism is promoted in the state.”

“The government has accorded top priority to the health and education sector and huge budgetary provision is being made for the same”, added Mann.

Mann also announced that by 26 January all the hospitals in the state from the tehsil and district level will be equipped with X-ray machines and their operators will also be deployed.

He further said that all the medicines prescribed by the doctors will also be available to the people within the hospital only to check their loot.

Medical college in every district

Mann further said that in a major push to medical education in Punjab, the state government has decided to construct 16 new medical colleges in the coming five years which will enhance the total tally of medical colleges in the state to 25 thereby ensuring that every district of the state touches a medical college.

He said that one such medical college will be dedicated to the people of the state on Saturday, 18 November, in Hoshiarpur during a function.

“The state government has set up 664 Aam Aadmi Clinics in the state to give a facelift to the health sector where 80 types of medicines and 42 diagnostic tests are being provided free of charge to the patients. Over 65 lakh patients availed free healthcare services at these clinics”, added Mann.

About the clinics, CM Mann said, “These clinics not only provide world-class treatment and diagnostic facilities to the people free of cost but also have opened new avenues of work for the youth in the medical sector.”

“These have also helped the government in preparing a database for checking the various diseases prevalent in the state and combating them effectively”, he added.
