Continuing its ongoing crackdown on gangster-terrorist networks being operated out of the state, Punjab police, on Thursday, 21 September, conducted raids at over 1,159 suspected locations and hideouts of associates of gangsters hiding abroad.

The key targets were the associates of terrorist Goldy Brar — the key accused in singer Sidhu Moosewala’s murder — who is currently in Canada.

One arrested, 30 detained

According to police officials, one individual was arrested and 30 were detained for further interrogation during the operation. The coordinated raids took place between 7 am and 2 pm.

The raids encompassed the residences and premises of associates, relatives, and acquaintances connected to various gangsters across all 28 police districts in the state.

Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla revealed that all Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Superintendents of Police (SSPs) were instructed to deploy sufficient police teams to conduct the raids diligently. The operation aimed to disrupt the nexus between terrorists, gangsters, and drug smugglers with links both in India and abroad.

During the operation, police teams were authorised to detain suspicious individuals.

Approximately 625 police teams, comprising over 2500 personnel, participated in the operation, investigating 1159 locations linked to gangster associates.

Shukla said: “During the operation, one arrest was made, and law enforcement recovered 120 gram of heroin and a 32-bore pistol with five live cartridges.”

Additionally, several individuals were apprehended for questioning, and incriminating evidence was seized from their possession. The gathered material and data are under further examination,” he added.
