Lumping Opposition leaders N Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan together with some media houses, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Thursday, 14 December, alleged that they are opposed to the development of the North Andhra region of the state.
Calling them “non-locals”, the chief minister alleged that they are unable to stomach the development work his government is initiating in North Andhra.
“When your son (Jagan) wants to set up the capital in Andhra Pradesh’s largest city (Visakhapatnam), they (Naidu and Kalyan) are blocking it despite being in the Opposition,” said Reddy, addressing a public meeting at Palasa in Srikakulam district.
He alleged that the group was opposing the construction of buildings, the establishment of offices and also the CM’s visit and stay in Visakhapatnam.
Despite being non-residents of Andhra Pradesh, Reddy claimed that Naidu, Kalyan and some select media houses want to dictate what the Chief Minister should do and where the capital city should be.
Likening his opponents to “cancerous tumours”, the Chief Minister called on people to vote them out in the next elections so that they would permanently stop looking at Andhra Pradesh.
Earlier, Reddy inaugurated the ₹700-crore YSR Sujaladhara Project at Makarapuram, an ₹85-crore 200-bedded YSR Kidney Research and Super Specialty Hospital at Palasa, and also laid the foundation for an Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) cluster in Palasa, all of them in the Srikakulam district.

He assured that the kidney research and super-specialty hospital would be developed as a world-class facility and a nodal centre for renal treatment, which would extend advanced treatment free of cost.
Further, Reddy noted that the Sujaladhara project will bring Vamsadhara river water through pipelines from Hiramandalam reservoir to Uddanam, supplying potable water to 7 lakh people in 807 villages in Palasa and Ichapuram constituencies.
It would be extended up to Pathapatnam constituency in the second phase at a cost of ₹265 crore.
