Siddhi urination incident in Assembly

Following the Opposition uproar over the Sidhi “urination incident” and other issues, the Madhya Pradesh Assembly has adjourned sine die on Wednesday, 12 July, three days ahead of schedule.

Demanding discussions over the urination incident, alleged atrocities on tribals, corruption in Mahakal Lok construction and the Satpura Bhawan fire incident, the Congress members trooped into the well of the House and raised slogans against the BJP government.

Congress demands discussion

Some Congress members even squatted in the well of the House demanding that discussions be held on the issues raised by them.

Last week, a video of a man urinating on another person went viral on social media.

Pravesh Shukla, an alleged associate of BJP MLA from Sidhi, was seen urinating on the tribal, Dashmesh Rawat.

The incident triggered a nationwide uproar, prompting Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to call the victim to his official residence and wash his feet as an act of atonement.

Shukla was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh Police on 5 July, a day after the video surfaced.

NSA slapped on accused

Relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the National Security Act (NSA) were slapped on him.

Subsequently, the accused alleged that an “illegal” portion of his house was demolished.

After the demolition, Shivraj Singh Chouhan washed the feet of the victim at the chief minister’s residence in Bhopal and apologised to him over the humiliating incident.

The state government also sanctioned financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to the victim and provided an additional sum of ₹1.5 lakh for the construction of his house.

Victim seeks release of accused

According to a PTI report, the Adivasi man who was the victim in the urination incident has urged the Madhya Pradesh government to release the accused man, saying he has now realised his mistake.

“My demand to the government is that a mistake has been committed [by the accused]…. Now, Pravesh Shukla should be released,” the man, Dashmat Rawat, told reporters.

“Whatever has happened in the past, he has realised his mistake,” he added.

Amid the din, Speaker Girish Gautam took up the listed business of the House, including the supplementary budget passed by voice vote without any discussion.

MP Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra proposed adjourning the house sine die. The Speaker then adjourned the Assembly sine die.

This was the last session of the Assembly as state elections are due in MP later this year.
