Highest ever drug bust in a single day by Punjab Police: 77 kg heroin seized in Ferozepur

The seizure was made by the Counter Intelligence Wing in two separate operations. Police have also seized three pistols from the smugglers.

In one of its biggest drug busts so far, the Punjab Police on Sunday, 6 August, said it has seized 77 kg of heroin from four people allegedly involved in a cross-border drug smuggling racket.

The seizure was made by the Counter Intelligence (CI) Wing, Ferozepur, in two separate operations. Police have also seized three pistols from the smugglers.

“One of the biggest heroin seizures of 2023: In two separate intelligence-led operations, CI, Ferozepur has apprehended 4 drug traffickers and recovered 77 Kg heroin (41Kg+36Kg) and 3 pistols,” said Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav in a statement.

‘Actively involved in cross border smuggling’

According to the police, the modules were actively involved in cross-border and inter-state drug smuggling.

Cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) were registered at Fazilka in connection with the seizures and further investigation is underway.

Divulging details of the first operation, DGP said that following a tip-off about a large heroin consignment, Police teams from CI got in action and put checkpoints and arrested two when they were coming on their motorcycle after retrieving the consignment.

Those arrested have been identified as Gagga Gill and Veer Singh.

Police teams have recovered 41.8 kg heroin and three pistols including two 9 mm pistols along with four magazines and 100 cartridges, and one .30 bore zigana along with two magazines and 15 cartridges from their possession.

In another intelligence-based operation, police arrested Jasbhinder Singh alias Bhinda and Jagdeep Singh alias Bhuchar both residents of Faridkot. Police recovered a cache of 36 kg heroin from their possession.

Special DGP Internal Security RN Dhoke said that the police teams are probing their network to track the Pak-based sender of this consignment.
