Film financier, ex-Navy employee among three held with drugs in Hyderabad

Authorities seized 2.8 grams of cocaine, six blots of LSD, 25 ecstasy pills weighing 11.5 grams and two packets of ganja from the accused.

Telangana State Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TSNAB) arrested a film financier, and two others, including a former Navy employee, and seized drugs worth ₹72,500 from them on Thursday, 30 August.

The TSNAB made the arrests after a joint search conducted with the Gudimalkapur Police. The sleuths seized 2.8 grams of cocaine, six blots of LSD, 25 ecstasy pills weighing 11.5 grams and two packets of ganja (20 grams each), and two cars, all worth ₹32.89 lakh from their possession, a police officer said.

The accused trio

The first accused, an ex-Navy employee (he was declared medically unfit due to eye injury), has been running a business besides dealing in drugs, the police said.

The second accused, a movie financier, organised rave parties, while the third accused, a senior steno at Rail Nilayam in Hyderabad, was a buyer.

The former Navy employee, a native of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, frequently visited Hyderabad to attend parties with friends, and in the process, contacted drug peddlers in Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

Later, he started arranging drug parties for friends and other known persons in Hyderabad and surrounding areas.

Nigerian connection

Gradually he established direct links/ contacts with Nigerian nationals dealing in drugs in Bengaluru and sold the banned substance to customers in Hyderabad, and also to people in the film industry, the police said.

The second accused, (who financed movies like Damarukam (2012), Kick (2009), Businessman (2012), etc.,) provided funds to the first accused to procure drugs in bulk to organise rave parties.

On receipt of credible information, the first accused was apprehended in the limits of Gudimalkapur Police Station, along with 15 ecstasy pills, they said, adding subsequently police raided a flat in Madhapur where a party was going on and caught the two others.

The police were looking for four others, including three Nigerian nationals, in connection with the case.

Two women were also found in the flat. The police said the film financier had invited them to the party on the pretext of providing acting opportunities.
