Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, ahead of the Assembly polls due in the state later this year, made several announcements during the main Independence Day function organised at the police parade ground in Raipur on Tuesday, 15 August.

Baghel unfurled the National Flag and took a salute from the parade.

Among his key declarations, no less than a plethora of Independence Day gifts, he underlined that the “Chhattisgarh Sahitya Academy Award” in three categories — regional dialect, Hindi verses, and Hindi poetry — would be constituted to strengthen the literary environment of the state.

Each category will get a ₹5 lakh cash award along with a plaque.

Schemes for women and children

Citing the safety, dignity and self-esteem of women as the priority for the state government, the chief minister said those who were accused of molestation of girls or women or were facing rape charges (or other offences against women) would be banned from securing government jobs.

Free online teaching and guidance classes from renowned coaching institutes would soon commence for students of Class 11 and 12 of government schools in distantly located areas to prepare them for various competitive examinations, he added.

He also gave assurances that modern concepts and state-of-the-art techniques like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the Internet of Things would be introduced in the school courses from the next academic session.

College-going students would get a free pickup and drop bus facility from home, he said.

Baghel added that Chhattisgarhi and local tribal dialects would be introduced as subjects in the curriculum from Classes 1 to 5.

He announced an increase in the stipend of community organisations engaged in urban slum livelihood and cleanliness missions.

The chief minister further announced the scheme “Mukhyamantri Nirman Shramik Pension Sahayata Yojana” to offer pensions to construction workers in the state.
