Bhagwant Mann government to revamp 40 state-run hospitals in Punjab

According to health & family welfare minister, these 40 establishments include 19 district hospitals, six subdivision hospitals and 15 CHCs.

In a bid to revolutionise the government healthcare system in the state, Punjab launched an upgradation of over 40 government health facilities in the state, on Thursday, 10 August.

According to Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh, these 40 establishments include 19 district hospitals, six subdivision hospitals, and 15 community health centres (CHCs).

“We are aiming to bring world-class healthcare to Punjab. All the formalities and preparations have been completed to execute this work and the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government will accomplish this work this year,” he said.

Held executive meeting

The health minister has set the plan rolling and held an execution meeting with the Punjab Health System Corporation (PHSC), the department of architecture, the public works department, Punjab mandi board, Punjab urban planning and development authority at Punjab Bhawan.

As per the plan revamping, new buildings will also be constructed according to the need and the required strength of doctors and staff will be ensured at all the government hospitals in Punjab.

“The upgraded buildings of all the hospitals will be equipped with ultra-modern facilities and equipment so that people can avail world-class healthcare facilities at government hospitals,” he added.

Meanwhile, the health minister along with the representatives of all the execution agencies will visit Sangrur and Patiala on 16 August, to work out the strategy for the early execution of the work.

‘Quality healthcare is a right’

“Quality healthcare is a need and right of every citizen. We in Delhi proved that quality healthcare can be provided at affordable rates in a government setup. Healthcare has long been ignored by previous governments but it is our topmost priority,” said Mann.

Meanwhile, the government in addition to this is also aiming to revamp healthcare through collaborations.

Department of Medical Education & Research, Punjab and Consocia Advisory/Stryker India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Dr Balbir Singh said that this partnership was a significant step towards fostering innovation and advancement, which aimed to leverage the unique strengths and expertise to tackle challenges, seize opportunities, and create meaningful impact, on patient care and research, especially in the field of stroke and brain attacks, initially in the government medical colleges in the state.

“This MoU will help in the development of medical manpower with quality education in the field of medicine and preparation of specialist and super specialist doctors in the state and to promote research activities in the medical colleges of Punjab,” he said.
