The list of Cabinet portfolios came a day after the Cabinet ministers and MoSes were administered the oath of office by the President.
The distribution of portfolios for Union Cabinet ministers and ministers of state (MoS) — as announced by the office of President Droupadi Murmu on Monday, 10 June — turned out to be a mixed bag for South India.
On one hand, Nirmala Sitharaman retained the Finance Ministry, while Pralhad Joshi was given the Food, Consumer Affairs and Renewable Energy portfolios.
The Ministry of Coal, which Joshi held earlier, was given to Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy. He was also given the Ministry of Mines.
On the other hand, JD(S) leader and former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, who had been angling for the Agriculture Ministry, was snubbed for it.
That portfolio went to Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the former MP chief minister who made way for young leader Mohan Yadav to take the post last year.
Kumaraswamy, meanwhile, was given the Steel and Heavy Industry Ministry.
Another ally, TDP’s Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu — the youngest in the Cabinet — was given the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
The list came a day after the Cabinet ministers and MoSes were administered the oath of office by the President.
