Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha member Rahul Gandhi is expected to announce five guarantees ahead of the Lok Sabha elections for the entire nation at a public meeting in Hyderabad on 6 April.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced the date for the public meeting while addressing party workers at Kodangal in the erstwhile Mahabubanagar district on Thursday, 28 March.
He said that Thukkuda had been fixed as the venue since it was from where party matriarch Sonia Gandhi announced six guarantees for Telangana on 17 September last year ahead of the Telangana Assembly elections.
The promises are widely believed to have helped the party steamroll its way to power in the state.
Revanth Reddy said on Thursday: “Just as Sonia Gandhi promised six guarantees for Telangana, Rahul Gandhi will announce five guarantees for the entire nation.”
He added: “I want at least 25,000 people from Kodangal to attend the public meeting, which will be organised on a very large scale.”
The chief minister, interacting with the party activists after polling for the MLC Local Authorities’ Constituency ended, said: “I am indebted to the people of Kodangal. They stood with me through thick and thin. I will not forget them. The development of the constituency will be one of my priorities.”
The chief minister promised a cement factory for Kodangal and said he would ensure maximum exploitation of limestone deposits in this part of the district.
The previous BRS government had neglected Kodangal, and thus no industry came up there, he said. “If industries come up here, the prices of lands would appreciate,” he said.
The chief minister said he was also promoting pharma industries in Kodangal since they would create immense employment potential for the youths.
He urged the farmers to cooperate with the government in land acquisition to facilitate the setting up of industries.
He allayed the fears assigned land owners over the price that would be paid, saying: “The price would be same for patta as well as assigned lands.”
He also urged the party workers to ensure a landslide victory for the Congress nominee for the Mahabubnagar Lok Sabha seat, Challa Vamshi Chand Reddy.
“He should win with not less than 50,000 votes,” said Revanth Reddy, asking them to form committees at every level in the Assembly segments to ensure the Congress candidate’s victory.
