Tandur BRS MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy on Saturday, 17 December, launched a blistering attack on the BJP and its state chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar over the Enforcement Directorate (ED) notice he has received, and sundry other allegations.

Taking on Bandi Sanjay for claiming that he had received notices from Bengaluru police in a drugs case, Rohith Reddy — the main complainant in the botched Cash for MLAs poaching episode allegedly masterminded by the BJP — dared him to repeat the allegation at the Bhagya Lakshmi temple at Charminar “in wet clothes on Sunday”.

Interacting with reporters at the temple, where he offered prayers to the deity, Rohith Reddy said he did not receive any notice from Bengaluru police and that “in the FIR of the drugs case, my name is not there”.

If Bandi Sanjay Kumar failed to prove his allegation, he should tender an unconditional apology to the people, Rohit Reddy said, adding: “I will be at Bhaghya Lakshmi Temple tomorrow (Sunday). Let Sanjay also come there.”

On the ED notice

The BRS legislator also wondered how Bandi Sanjay got to know that the ED was going to issue a notice to him.

About the ED notice, Rohith Reddy said that there was no mention in it of the case in which he was wanted.

“The ED simply wanted my bio data,” he said, adding that it was surprising that the agency could issue notices without mentioning the reason for asking someone to appear before its officials.

Flaying the BJP for misusing the central investigation agencies, Rohith Reddy said: “The BJP, which has developed cold feet after KCR launched BRS at the national level, is using its investigating agencies to settle political scores with its rivals.”

He, however, said the BJP did not scare him and that he had full faith in the judicial system. Even legal experts were surprised at the notice ED had sent him, he added.

What the ED notice said

The ED notice sent to Rohith Reddy referred to the Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) 48/2022, but did not elaborate on what it was.

The ED, however, asked him to appear before it with documents relating to his properties and those held by his relatives. Also, it sought bank statements from 2014 till now.

It is presumed that Rohith Reddy might be questioned in connection with what is called the Bengaluru drugs case.

The case related to the seizure of drugs on a large scale from a party hosted by Kannada film producer Shankare Gowda.

Gowda, who was subsequently arrested, threw the party for his friends in Bengaluru which was attended by celebrities, politicians, and businessmen.

Rohith Reddy reportedly attended the party along with two businessmen from Telangana.
