Lok Sabha elections 2024: Andhra Pradesh records highest turnout in South India; Telangana registers the lowest

With the conclusion of the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections on 13 May, all five South Indian states have cast their ballots.

Among the South Indian states, Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest voter turnout at 80.66 percent while Telangana recorded the lowest at 66.3 percent.

Meanwhile, Karnataka recorded a turnout of 70.64 percent, Kerala recorded 71.27 percent, and Tamil Nadu recorded 69.72 percent.

According to the EC, the voter turnout recorded during the four phases of the elections was: Phase I (66.14 percent), Phase II (66.71 percent), Phase III (65.68 percent), and Phase IV (69.16 percent).

Andhra Pradesh

The Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh were also held simultaneously with the Assembly polls, which also recorded a turnout of 80.66 percent.

Including the 1.2 percent votes through postal ballots, the total votes polled were 81.86 percent.

The polling percentage rose from 79.83 percent in 2019 in the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls held in the state simultaneously on 13 May.

The Ongloe Parliamentary constituency recorded the highest turnout at 87.06 percent while the Visakhapatnam constituency recorded the lowest (71.11 percent).

A total of 16,430,359 male voters, 16,908,684 female voters and 1,517 voters belonging to the other category cast their votes in the Lok Sabha polls.

In the Assembly polls, 16,430,143 male voters, 16,908,678 female voters and 1,512 voters from the other category cast their votes.

Darsi Assembly constituency witnessed the highest voter turnout at 90.91 percent and Tirupati Assembly constituency the lowest at 63.32 percent.

Karnataka

The polling for the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka was held in two phases, in 14 constituencies on 26 April and on 13 May in the remaining 14.

Of the total 5,47,25,675 electors in the state, 3,86,57,725 voters cast their ballots, making a turnout of 70.64 percent.

Of the voters, 1,94,64,075 were male, 1,91,92,574 were female and 1,076 voters belonged to the other category.

The turnout showed a 2.01 percent increase from the 68.64 percent recorded in the 2019 polls.

The Mandya constituency recorded the highest turnout at 81.67 percent and the lowest turnout was recorded in the Bangalore South constituency (53.17 percent).

Kerala

Kerala voted for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 on 26 April and recorded a voter turnout of 71.27 percent.

Of the total registered electors (2,77,49,158), 1,97,77,478 people cast their votes.

While 94,75, 090 among the voters were male, 1,03,02,238 were female and 150 voters belonged to the other category.

The state has recorded a decrease of around 6.4 percent in turnout compared to the 2019 elections (77.67 percent).

Tamil Nadu

The total turnout of 69.72 percent was recorded in Tamil Nadu which voted in the Lok Sabha elections on 19 April.

It is relatively less than the figures recorded in the previous general elections in the state (72.02 percent).

Of the total of 6,23,33,925 electors in Tamil Nadu, 4,34,58,875 cast their votes.

Out of 3,17,19,665 female electors, 2,21,58,256 cast their votes and of 3,06,05,793 male electors, 2,12,97,903 exercised their franchise.

In the ‘others’ category, out of 8,467 electors, only 2,716 cast their votes.

Dharmapuri constituency recorded the highest voter turnout at 81.20 percent and Chennai Central recorded the lowest at 53.96 percent.

Telangana

In Telangana, a total of 2,20,24,806 voters out of 3,32,16,348 electors cast their votes, recording a 66.3 percent turnout.

The highest turnout was recorded in the Bhongir constituency at 76.78 percent and the lowest was at 48.48 percent in the Hyderabad constituency.

The polling was slightly higher compared to the 62.71 percent turnout in the 2019 elections.
