Celebrities and Bharat Jodo Yatra: Kamal Haasan set to join Rahul Gandhi on 24 December

It is expected that Kamal Haasan joining the Yathra will initiate a political alliance between Congress and MNM.

The Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra completed 100 days on Friday, 16 December, with Kamal Haasan set to be the latest celebrity to join it. The yatra started from Kanniyakumari in Tamil Nadu on 7 September.

Throughout the on-foot journey of Rahul Gandhi and Congress workers, lakhs of people have joined him in the yatra for short stints, including a few celebrities.

The latest in the list of celebrities to join Rahul Gandhi is Tamil superstar and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) supremo Kamal Haasan.

Haasan will be participating in the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Delhi on 24 December.

According to the party, Kamal Haasan told office-bearers in Chennai he had been invited by Rahul Gandhi to participate in the yatra.

It is expected that Kamal Haasan joining the Yatra will initiate a political alliance between the Congress and the MNM.

MNM spokesperson Murali Appas told PTI that party workers, led by Haasan, would take part in the Gandhi-led foot march in the national capital. “Our leader made the announcement addressing office-bearers,” he said.

Chaired by Haasan, MNM’s administrative and executive committee and district secretaries’ meeting was held in Chennai on Sunday, 18 December.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra by Rahul Gandhi is “a padayatra from Kanniyakumari to Kashmir to unite our nation against hatred and division, highest ever unemployment and record price rise”, he said.

The yatra has covered the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, and is currently in Rajasthan.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra has attracted a footfall of lakhs of people during its course of more than 100 days. Here is a look at the prominent personalities who joined Rahul Gandhi during the padayatra.

Raghuram Rajan

The former RBI governor joined the Yatra on 14 December in Rajasthan. His presence at the event was slammed by the BJP.
