Contrary to the exit polls, the BJP is all set to form its government in Haryana for the third consecutive term after the Election Commission of India on Tuesday, 8 October, announced the results of the Assembly elections held in the state on 5 October.
BJP won 48 seats in the 90-member Assembly, two more than the absolute majority, while the Congress won 37 seats. Indian National Lok Dal won two seats while independents got hold of three.
Meanwhile, the AAP, which expected to make a mark in the polls, drew blank.
Reports said that Nayab Singh Saini, the sitting chief minister of Haryana, will get another term at the top post. Saini won the Ladwa assembly seat by a margin of 16,054 votes against Congress’ Mewa Singh.
However, Congress said it could not accept the election verdict in Haryana and termed it unexpected and shocking. Earlier in the day, Congress had written to EC complaining “slowdown” in updating results for the election.
Congress leaders Pawan Khera and Jairam held a press conference and said the results were “unacceptable”.
“There have been constant complaints from Hisar, Mahendragarh, and Panipat districts about EVMs. The battery levels in these machines were at 99 percent, and in these areas, the results defeated Congress. In contrast, we won in machines with battery levels at 60–70 percent, which were not tampered with,” Khera claimed.
“We will take all these complaints to the Election Commission. This is not a victory of democracy but of manipulation, and we cannot accept it,” he added.
“The results in Haryana are unexpected, completely surprising and counter-intuitive. It goes against the reality. It goes against what the people in Haryana had made their minds up for, which was for change and transformation. Under these circumstances, we can’t accept the results that have been announced today. What we have seen today in Haryana is a victory for manipulation, a victory for subverting the will of the people and it is a defeat for transparent, democratic processes. The chapter on Haryana is not complete,” Ramesh said.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the massive victory of the BJP in Haryana is a victory of the unwavering faith of farmers, poor, backward, soldiers and youth in the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shah also said the people of “Veerbhoomi” Haryana have completely rejected the “negative and divisive politics” of Congress which “divides” people on the basis of caste and region. The people have chosen the 10 years track record of development and welfare of poor of BJP, he added.
“Salute to the people of Veerbhoomi Haryana. This massive victory of the BJP in Haryana is a victory of the unwavering faith of farmers, the poor, the backward, the soldiers and the youth in the BJP government led by Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji,” he wrote on X in Hindi.

In a major shock to the Congress, its Haryana President Udai Bhan ost from Hodal Assembly constituency by a margin of over 2,500 votes.
