Cash for MLAs: SIT counter in court has WhatsApp chats among accused as evidence

Call records of the three accused as well as WhatsApp chats involving BJP leader BL Santhosh were submitted in court.

In an interesting development, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Wednesday, 30 November, submitted a counter in the Telangana High Court with articles of evidence that linked BJP General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santhosh with Ramachandra Bharathi, one of the accused in the “cash for MLAs” case.

The counter that the SIT filed had the contents of the conversations among the accused in the case.

The articles of evidence also included WhatsApp chats among four accused persons and the call data of the three accused persons.

The SIT also filed the article of evidence of conversations among Hyderabad hotelier Nanda Kumar, Faridabad priest with Kerala origins Ramachandra Bharathi, and Tirupati pontiff Simhayaji, as well as Santhosh’s WhatsApp chat.

The SIT said that it had served notices under Section 41 A of the CRPC on the suspects and was in the process of inquiring with them about their possible involvement.

It said it was yet to investigate the involvement of those whose audio tapes were now available with it. The SIT also submitted pictures of important BJP leaders with the accused in the case.

Later in the evening, Hyderabad police Commissioner CV Anand, who is heading the SIT, said that his team had not leaked the contents of its counter filed in the high court to the media.

While submitting the arguments before the high court, the senior counsel appearing for the SIT submitted the evidence collected against the accused.

Copies of the counter were also submitted to the petitioners.

He asserted that the SIT was not responsible or involved in the leakage of this information to the media.
