Boycotting US, Israeli products could end West Asia conflict

If countries and people stopped buying products from the US and Israel, those governments would collapse.

US warplanes on the deck of USS Abraham Lincoln.

Synopsis: This war is all about propping up a crumbling economy. This war is no more than a glorified, high-tech grave robbery. The US and Israel survive on income from their vast network of companies located all over the world. They survive on selling weapons and merchandising death. It is these companies that are the lifelines that fuel their war machine.

The joint US-Israel attack on Iran is a crime against humanity. A proud country, which has been a victim of international strangulation for several decades, is being bombed into the Stone Age by two of the most powerful nations on Earth.

Some media houses are acting as the mouthpieces of this war, underplaying popular anger and human tragedy, while dehumanising the victims of this unjust war.

Beyond protest rallies

There have been numerous angry and emotional demonstrations throughout the world against this atrocity. People often ask, at the end of a rally, how effective these rallies are and how they would deter the aggressor. Is it merely to make a statement, or is there a real way to stop this war?

I believe there is. Both these countries can be defeated militarily, at least in the current world scenario. But both these monsters have a soft underbelly. Their economy.

This war is all about propping up a crumbling economy. This war is no more than a glorified, high-tech grave robbery. The US and Israel survive on income from their vast network of companies located all over the world. They survive on selling weapons and merchandising death. It is these companies that are the lifelines that fuel their war machine.

War without bloodshed

Close to 60% of their industries are, directly or indirectly, supporting their economies. These companies are dependent on wars, cold-blooded killings and destruction. There have been incidents of blasting a multinational warehouse here and there. This is futile because insurance will pay for a new facility.

The answer is to hit them where it matters and where it hurts. It is by boycotting every American and Israeli company and product wherever possible. There is no need to blow them up. If the sales are down, they will shut themselves down. We should demand that our own heartless and gutless government stop buying Israeli and American military hardware. Their economies cannot survive a huge expenditure on war with reduced incomes.

When their companies make losses, their own people will agitate to stop the war. This will really put their opinion polls and their ‘thirst’ for democracy to the test. This does not take long. Just weeks will have an impact. This war can be stopped.

To give an example, when the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi cancelled a single Westland helicopter order from the UK, the whole town of Yeovil in Somerset had to shut down, resulting in the resignation of Michael Heseltine, the defence minister, besides rocking the British government.  This is what a single cancellation can do.

If governments and people stopped buying their products, both military and non-military, these governments would collapse.

Remember, every cola we drink, every pizza or burger we eat, every packet of American cereal or chips we consume, every piece of Anglo-American technology we acquire, every Hollywood film we watch, every pair of US denim we buy, every Israeli-American product we use and every time we do business with any US or Israeli company, we are paying for this war. We are paying for the bullets that pierce the hearts of those faraway people. We are buying uniforms for the murderers. We are paying for the bombs that are blowing apart men, women and children in Iran. We are fuelling the aircraft, and thereby destroying a culture and an ancient civilisation that gave the world its judicial system, legal code, art, literature, music, architecture and fine cuisine.

If we don’t buy, they cannot run this unjust war. Believe! We are not alone. There are many of us all over the world. We can overcome!
