Telangana ACB nets forest official in Rs 28 lakh bribery case

Sravani had demanded the sum from a contractor in return for permission to cut eucalyptus plantations belonging to the department.

Synopsis: Telangana ACB arrested Kothagudem Forest Development Corporation divisional manager T Sravani for allegedly demanding ₹28 lakh from a contractor to permit eucalyptus cutting. Earlier, Ranger Rajender and a middleman were caught with ₹3.5 lakh. Sravani, absconding since January, was traced to Visakhapatnam and arrested.

Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) netted Kothagudem Forest Development Corporation (FDC) divisional manager T Sravani for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹28 lakh.

ACB officials stated that Sravani had demanded the sum from a contractor in return for permission to cut eucalyptus plantations belonging to the department.

On 3 January, the ACB nabbed Ranger Rajender and a middleman, Gopalakrishna, while they were receiving ₹3.5 lakh as part of the alleged deal at Seethaigudem in Annapureddypalli mandal, Bhadradri Kothagudem district.

Following the sting operation, Ranger Rajender was taken into custody in Hyderabad.

However, Sravani was absconding. ACB officers maintained surveillance over her movements and eventually tracked her down to Visakhapatnam, where she was arrested.

Telangana ACB has urged citizens to report instances of bribery/corruption by government officials. The complaints can be registered through toll-free number 1064.
