Telangana ACB nabs university dean in Rs 1 lakh bribe case

ACB’s City Range-II unit organised a trap and caught the officer in the act. The tainted money was recovered from his possession.

Synopsis: Telangana ACB arrested Dr M Goverdhan, Associate Dean of Agronomy at PJTSAU, while allegedly receiving a ₹1 lakh bribe. He had earlier taken ₹25,000 for a seed licence and demanded more to prevent hurdles. ACB officials recovered the tainted money, and he was remanded in judicial custody.

Telangana ACB nabbed Dr M Goverdhan, Associate Dean of Agronomy at Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), Rajendra Nagar, while he was allegedly receiving a bribe of ₹1 lakh on Tuesday.

Officials reported that Goverdhan had earlier demanded and accepted ₹25,000 from a complainant for issuing a seed licence to his firm, reported The Hindu.

He subsequently sought an additional ₹1 lakh as a payoff to ensure that Agriculture Department officials would not obstruct the complainant’s seed business.

Acting on the complaint, ACB’s City Range-II unit organised a trap and caught the officer in the act. The tainted money was recovered from his possession.

Authorities stated that the accused misused his official position for personal gain. He was produced before the court and has been remanded in judicial custody.
