Tamil Nadu DVAC sleuths arrest panchayat officer for accepting Rs 6,000 bribe

The officer had earlier received ₹2,000, and was caught red-handed while accepting the remaining ₹4,000 in cash by DVAC.

Synopsis: DVAC officers in Erode arrested Nichampalayam village panchayat Executive Officer Marichamy on 3 March 2026 for allegedly demanding a ₹6,000 bribe to process a property tax transfer. He was caught red-handed accepting ₹4,000 in cash after earlier receiving ₹2,000 digitally.

Officers from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Erode unit, on Tuesday, 3 March, arrested a village panchayat Executive Officer in Perundurai block for allegedly taking a bribe.

The accused, Marichamy of Nichampalayam panchayat, had reportedly demanded ₹6,000 from local resident Dinesh to transfer his late father Shanmugam’s name in the property tax records, reported The Hindu.

Following Dinesh’s complaint, DVAC laid a trap. The officer had earlier received ₹2,000 via Google Pay, and was caught red-handed while accepting the remaining ₹4,000 in cash by a team led by Inspector M Rekha. He was taken into custody immediately.
