DVAC officials reported that he had initially demanded ₹10,000 from Mariappan, a farmer, to process the free power connection for his land. The sum was later reduced to ₹5,000.

Refusing to pay, Mariappan lodged a complaint with DVAC’s Trichy unit. A case was registered on 4 March, after which a trap was organised under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent Manikandan, assisted by Inspectors Sakthivel, Xavier Rani, and Balamurugan.

Parthiban was nabbed red-handed while receiving the bribe at his office, officials confirmed. Further enquiries are ongoing.
