Synopsis: Lokayukta police in Shivamogga arrested Bhadravati Block Education Officer Nagendrappa AK and middleman Manjunath on 2 March while accepting a ₹1 lakh bribe from office superintendent Lingaraju, who had sought clearance of long‑pending salary arrears.
On 2 March, Lokayukta police in Shivamogga nabbed the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Bhadravati, along with an associate, while they were accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a colleague.
Both men were taken into custody following the operation, reported The Hindu.
The individuals arrested were Nagendrappa AK, serving as BEO of Bhadravati, and Manjunath, who acted as an intermediary in the transaction.
The arrests followed a formal complaint lodged by Lingaraju, the office superintendent in the BEO’s establishment. Lingaraju had sought clearance of his pending salary dues and arrears dating back to the period between 2011 and 2023.
In response, the BEO and Manjunath allegedly demanded a sum of ₹4 lakh to process the payments.
Unwilling to comply, Lingaraju approached the Lokayukta authorities, who subsequently organised a trap. The two men were arrested in the BEO’s office at approximately 7 pm on 2 March.
The operation was executed by a team led by Inspector Gururaj N Mylara, under the supervision of Lokayukta Superintendent of Police MS Koulapure and Deputy Superintendent BP Chandreshekhar.
The investigation has now been taken up by Lokayukta Inspector Veerabasappa L Kusalapura.
