Synopsis: Lokayukta officials arrested revenue inspector Chandrappa in Harihar taluk for accepting a ₹50,000 bribe from Dr Umesh Hiremath. The inspector allegedly demanded money to file a boundary report. Acting on Umesh’s complaint, DySP Kalavati’s team raided the taluk office and caught him red-handed.
Karnataka Lokayukta team caught revenue inspector Chandrappa, on Saturday, 4 April, while he was accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 from a doctor in Naganur village, Harihar taluk.
According to Lokayukta slueths, Dr Umesh Hiremath owns land bearing survey number 158 in Naganur. After the Davangere Harihar Urban Development Authority (DHUDA) approved a single-site settlement, neighbouring landowners raised objections.
Umesh subsequently applied to the taluk office to have the boundary of his land formally fixed, reported Deccan Herald.
The inspector allegedly visited the doctor’s private hospital and demanded ₹50,000 to submit a report to DHUDA on 18 March. Umesh lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta on 21 March.
Acting on the tip-off, a police team led by DySP Kalavati raided the taluk office while Chandrappa was receiving the bribe and took him into custody.
