Synopsis: Anti-Corruption Bureau officials in Kadapa arrested Pulivendula deputy tahsildar V Nagendra Kumar after he was caught red-handed accepting a ₹10,000 bribe to process a Waqf land file. Acting on a complaint, ACB laid a trap at the RDO office. Kumar faces court proceedings, with searches underway.
Andhra Pradesh ACB arrested the deputy tahsildar of Pulivendula at the RDO office in Kadapa district on Friday, 13 February. V Nagendra Kumar was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 in return for an official favour.
An extent of 35.84 acres of land at Yerrabommanapalli village in Chakrayapeta mandal, registered in the name of Khadreeya Mosque, had been classified as Inam land.
Members of the Waqf management committee are alleged to have encroached upon the property and secured pattadar passbooks in their own names, reported the Deccan Chronicle.
The complainant, Mitayigiri Karimullah, resident of Kumaarakalva village, had previously approached Waqf Board authorities in 2019 and 2021.
Following probe, the Board instructed revenue officials to remove the encroachers’ names from records and restore the land to the Waqf Board’s manager. Despite these directives from higher authorities, no action was taken.
Repeated complaints lodged through the Public Grievance Redressal System left the matter pending at the Pulivendula RDO office. Nagendra Kumar allegedly demanded ₹10,000 to process the file.
Refusing to pay the bribe, the complainant approached ACB officials. Acting on the complaint, Kadapa ACB officers led by DSP Seetharama Rao laid a trap on 13 February and caught Nagendra Kumar in the act at his office.
The tainted officer has since been arrested and is being produced before the ACB court in Kurnool. Searches are underway at his residence and office premises as well.
