Bengaluru Bescom engineer caught red-handed taking Rs 3 lakh bribe

Synopsis: Lokayukta police arrested Bescom engineer Rajesh KV in Indiranagar while allegedly accepting a ₹3 lakh bribe from a contractor. He had demanded ₹7 lakh for restoring meters and a new power connection. A corruption case is under investigation.

The Lokayukta police on Monday arrested a Bescom engineer while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹3 lakh from an electrical contractor in exchange for an official favour.

The detained officer has been identified as Rajesh KV, executive engineer (electrical) of the E-11 Division, Bescom, Indiranagar, reported The Hindu.

Officials stated that the complainant, an electrical contractor, had approached them claiming that Rajesh had demanded a bribe of ₹7 lakh to restore electricity meters and arrange a new 24 KW power connection for the complainant’s client.

Acting upon the complaint, Lokayukta officers set up a trap and caught Rajesh in the act.

A case has been filed against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further enquiries are currently in progress.
