Synopsis: Andhra Pradesh ACB arrested two police officers in Kadapa for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes from a bike buyer, and separately detained an education officer and a data entry operator in Srikakulam for extorting a retired teacher over pension papers. Both cases are before special courts.

Andhra Pradesh ACB officials arrested the Circle Inspector (CI) of Pulivendula Rural and the Sub-Inspector (SI) of Simhadripuram while they were allegedly receiving a bribe of ₹1.5 lakh from the proprietor of a two-wheeler consultancy.

The complainant had purchased a motorcycle from an individual later identified as a chain snatcher. Claiming that the vehicle had been used in criminal activities, CI Nallapalli Venkata Ramana and SI Dasari Anil Kumar allegedly threatened to implicate the buyer in the snatching cases.

According to a Hindu report, the officers are said to have initially demanded ₹7 lakh, later reducing the amount to ₹3.5 lakh in exchange for not registering a case against him. Having already collected ₹50,000, they pressed for the balance, warning that failure to pay would result in his name being added to the case records.

On Monday, the SI was caught red-handed at Simhadripuram police station while allegedly accepting ₹1.5 lakh, reportedly at the behest of the CI. According to the ACB, both officers will be produced before the Special Court for ACB cases in Kurnool.

Arrests made in Srikakulam too

In a separate incident, ACB officials arrested a Mandal Educational Officer (MEO) and a data entry operator in Srikakulam district on Monday for allegedly taking a ₹10,000 bribe from a retired schoolteacher.

The accused, Kuramana Appa Rao, MEO of Itchapuram mandal, and Uppada Kameswara Rao alias Kamesh, a contract data entry operator, were detained following a complaint lodged by Vejendla Neerakshana Rao, a retired secondary grade teacher from Itchapuram who superannuated in December 2025.

The teacher had submitted his pension papers in January 2026 for forwarding to the Sub-Treasury Office. When he followed up on 3 February, Kamesh allegedly demanded ₹7,000 for himself and ₹3,000 for the MEO to process the file, reported Deccan Chronicle.

Roughly a fortnight later, the MEO is said to have repeated the demand, cautioning that the documents would not be forwarded without payment.

The complainant then approached the ACB, which registered a case under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and laid a trap. Both officials were caught in the act — the MEO allegedly receiving ₹3,000 and the data entry operator ₹7,000 — and were arrested.

Searches are currently being conducted at their homes and offices. The accused are to be produced before the Special Court for ACB cases in Visakhapatnam.
