Synopsis: Anti-Corruption Bureau officials in Guntur arrested APCPDCL junior lineman Nakkanaboina Nagendra Babu and his son for demanding and accepting a ₹70,000 bribe to process a transformer installation request in Chejerla, Palnadu. Acting on a complaint, ACB trapped the accused, registered a case, and initiated searches at his premises.
Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Guntur nabbed a junior lineman (JLM) employed with APCPDCL after he demanded and accepted a bribe of ₹70,000 for processing an application to install an electric transformer and lay power cables on farmland in Chejerla village, Palnadu district.
As per Times of India, the accused, Nakkanaboina Nagendra Babu, along with his son, was taken into custody for his involvement in the offence.
According to the complainant, Gundala Yohanu, a resident of Chejerla, he had submitted an online application to the Chejerla Assistant Engineer’s office seeking approval to erect a transformer and extend an electric line to agricultural land belonging to his mother and aunt.
Following this, the assistant engineer (AE) deputed Nagendra Babu to carry out a field inspection and prepare a rough sketch of the land, which was required before the application could be processed.
During this process, the accused allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹80,000 at the AE office in Chejerla to facilitate the application. He later reduced the demand to ₹70,000. Unwilling to comply, the complainant approached the ACB in Guntur and lodged a formal complaint.
Acting on the complaint, ACB officials organised a trap and caught the accused red-handed when he demanded and accepted the bribe near the Chejerla Grama Sachivalayam. A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
The arrested individuals were produced before the ACB magistrate in Vijayawada. Meanwhile, searches are being conducted at the residence and office premises of the accused to gather further evidence.
