Synopsis: Designated as a Senior Advocate in July 2011, Justice Vibhu Bakhru was appointed Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court in April 2013. From 5 December 2024 to 21 January 2025, he served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.
The Union government on Monday, 14 July, approved the appointments of five chief justices for high courts, including Karnataka.
Justice Vibhu Bakhru will be the new Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka. He will take over from the Acting Chief Justice, V Kameswar Rao.
Born on 2 November 1966 in Nagpur, Justice Bakhru studied in the Delhi Public School, Mathura Road in New Delhi. After completing his schooling, he enrolled as a student with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in March 1985.
He successfully pursued a B.Com degree from the Delhi University in 1987, and two years later, cleared his final Chartered Accountancy examination.
Justice Bakhru received his LLB degree in 1990, and enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in September that year. He had practised in the Supreme Court, High Court of Delhi, Company Law Board and other tribunals.
Designated as a Senior Advocate in July 2011, he was appointed Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court in April 2013. From 5 December 2024 to 21 January 2025, he served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.
On 26 May 2025, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his appointment as the Chief Justice of Karnataka.

They are Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva (Madhya Pradesh), Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan (Jharkhand), Justice Ashutosh Kumar (Gauhati), and Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi (Patna).
