Telangana’s Singareni among 60 coal blocks going under hammer in 10th round

The Ministry of Coal said the auction has the potential to propel economic growth, generate employment opportunities, strengthen energy security, and contribute to sustainable development.

The Union Ministry of Coal will launch the next tranche of coal block auction on Friday, 21 June, to enhance domestic coal production and ensure energy security.

In an X message on Wednesday, 19 June, Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy said the 10th round of commercial coal mining auctions will be launched in Hyderabad. The mines going under the hammer include one in Telangana.

Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey, Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, Amrit Lal Meena, will be present on the occasion.

The coming commercial coal mining auction signifies the ministry’s commitment to propel the sector forward. A total of 60 coal mines will be put up for auction. Among these, 24 coal mines are fully explored, while 36 are partially explored.

Second attempt

Additionally, five coal mines will be offered under the second attempt of round 9 of the commercial coal auction. Of these, four are fully explored, and one, partially explored. Also, two coal mines would be on offer as part of round eight’s second attempt. One of the two mines is fully explored.

The initiative is poised to foster transparency, competitiveness, and sustainability within the coal sector. The upcoming auction round includes 60 coal blocks, encompassing a diverse range of coking and non-coking coal mines.

An official statement said the strategically located blocks across different states and regions would support regional economic development and employment generation.

The auction tranche represents a pivotal moment in the mission to achieve self-reliance in the coal sector. By opening up more blocks, the central government is unlocking India’s vast coal reserves to drive economic growth and energy security.

Single-window platform

The statement said the government is committed to sustainable mining practices that balance economic development with environmental stewardship.

For ease of doing business, a Single-Window Clearance System (SWCS) portal will be available to obtain various clearances.

The statement further said that the upcoming auction has the potential to propel economic growth, generate employment opportunities, strengthen energy security, and contribute to sustainable development.

Detailed information regarding the mines, auction terms, timelines, etc. can be accessed on the MSTC auction platform. The auction will be conducted online through a transparent process, based on the Percentage Revenue Share model, the statement said.

Besides the one in Telangana, the mines on offer include those in Bihar (3), Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh (15 each), Jharkhand (6), Odisha (16), Maharashtra (1), and West Bengal (3).
