The Telangana fire incident happened in early hours of 17 December at the Gudipelli-Venkatapur village of Mandamarri block in Mancherial district.

Six people, including two toddlers, were burnt alive when a fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday, 17 December in Gudipelli-Venkatapur village of Mandamarri block in Telangana’s Mancherial district.

The Mancherial police identified the victims as Masu Shivaiah (50), his wife Rajyalaxmi (45), daughter Mounika (22), granddaughters Hima Bindu (2) and Sweety (3), and a relative Shanigarapu Shanthaiah (55).`

Fallout of the fire

According to the police, the house caught fire at around 1 am when all the residents were asleep.

“Since the hut was built with wooden pillars, it burnt easily. The six were burnt alive even before they realised that their hut had caught fire,” Mancherial Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Akhil Mahajan told South First.

The cops suspect that either the explosion of an LPG cylinder or an electrical short-circuit could have caused the accident.

The cops added that the family was hosting guests for a few days and they were victims of the blaze.

“Two days back, Mounika (a niece), her two children and a relative came to the house,” ACP Mancherial B Tirupathi Reddy told South First.

He added that the neighbours saw the flames coming out of house and were the first to alert the police.

After receiving the information, a team of firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the flames.
