Telangana: Mass National Anthem singing on Tuesday, traffic to halt at 11:30 am

Traffic lights across the state will turn red at the appointed time, bringing all vehicles to a halt for the duration of the anthem.

As part of the ‘Swatantra Bharat Vajrotsavalu’, the TRS-led Telangana government has called for ‘Telangana Rashtra Samoohika Jateeya Geeta Alapana’ (mass rendition of the national anthem) across the state on Tuesday, 16 August, to mark the country’s 75th Independence Day celebrations.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, in an official communique, said, “Mass singing and playing of the national anthem will be organised at 11:30 am on 16 August across the state.”

“The mass singing of the national anthem will be held at all important landmarks, government offices, urban local bodies, panchayats, educational institutions, market places, jails and at traffic junctions,” Kumar added.

“All district collectors and superintendent of police or commissioners have prepared a plan of action for the event,” the chief secretary said.

He urged everyone to participate in the mass singing of the national anthem with utmost discipline and without movement or noise.

Telangana Police chief M Mahendar Reddy also requested every denizen of the state to participate in the historic event.

In one of his tweets he wrote, “We hope that mass national anthem singing on the occasion of India’s Independence Day will be successful with a large participation of all people. #SwathantraBharataVajrotsavalu #75thYearOfIndependence.”

Reddy has directed all district SPs to identify places in their respective jurisdictions where people can gather for the historic event.

The Hyderabad City Police, in a series of tweets, announced that vehicular movement will be stopped at all traffic junctions as all lights would be turned red at 11:30 am.

The state police have requested all commuters to stand and sing the national anthem at traffic junctions.

The Hyderabad Police in one of its tweets wrote, “Let us come together and render #NationalAnthem to celebrate 75 years of Independence… #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav #SwatantraBharathaVajrotsavalu #స్వతంత్రభారతవజ్రోత్సవాలు #HarGharTiranga. (sic).”
