Telangana: IIT, UoH, and Osmania among top 25 universities in India

The NIRF list ranks the best academic institutions annually in India based on several categories.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) on Friday, 15 July, placed several Telangana education institutions on the list of the top 25 Universities in India.

The NIRF, started in 2015, is a methodology adopted by the Union Ministry of Education to rank Indian academic institutions. It evaluates institutions based on 11 different categories.

The list was announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The University of Hyderabad in Gachibowli, a Central government university, was ranked 20th in the overall category, 10th among the best universities, 27th in the research, and 94th in the management category.

The Osmania University in Hyderabad — the seventh-oldest in the country — was ranked 22nd place among the best universities and 46th overall.

D Ravinder, the vice-chancellor of the university, called it a good sign. He said, “This ranking is an improvement over the last year and will boost the image and perception of the university among the stakeholders.”

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad, in the Sangareddy district bagged the ninth position in the engineering category, 12th in research, and 14th overall in the country.

In the law section, the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) in Hyderabad was ranked fourth. It is the only law university in Telangana to find a spot in the top 100 law institutions in the country.

The National Institute of Technology (NIT), a technical and research institution, secured 45th rank in the overall category and 21st in the engineering category.

The International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-H), Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), and the SR University in Warangal also made their way to the top 100 universities in the engineering category. They were ranked 62, 76, and 91, respectively.

In the management category, the ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education and the Institute of Management Technology were in the top 100.

The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research of Hyderabad, Kakatiya University, Anurag University, Vishnu Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, CMR College of Pharmacy, and the Gokaraju Rangaraju College of Pharmacy were placed in the top 100 in the pharmacy category.

No Telangana university was placed in the top 100 in the architecture, medical, or dental categories.
