Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday, 27 August, directed officials across departments to stay on high alert in view of the rains in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana.
He instructed that residents of old or unsafe houses be shifted to safer locations and that precautions be taken near electric poles and transformers around Vinayaka Mandapams.
The chief minister emphasised coordination between the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), police, fire services department, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other agencies to respond well during emergencies.
He also ordered traffic restrictions at overflowing causeways, precautionary measures around water bodies, sanitation drives to prevent epidemics, and sufficient medicines and medical camps to be arranged by the health department.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad and Cyberabad Traffic Police issued alerts for commuters due to the rain forecast across the city. With a forecast for a prolonged spell spanning hours in Hyderabad and several localities on Yellow and Orange Alert in Cyberabad, rains are expected to lash the city.
Cyberabad Police issued a rain alert in HITEC City, Gachibowli, Shaikpet and Kukatpally, asking that commuters plan accordingly. The Cyberabad Traffic Police is also working to clear waterlogging in Miyapur to ease traffic.
At the same time, a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is set to bring moderate to heavy rainfall across Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, with Krishna, coastal, and north coastal districts likely to see the heaviest showers.
Winds may reach 40–60 kmph along the coast. Authorities have urged fishermen to stay ashore, mandapam organisers to take precautions, and residents to remain alert.
