Synopsis: The Telangana government has announced Dasara bonuses for nearly 71,000 Singareni Collieries Company Limited employees. Permanent workers will receive ₹1,95,610 each, while contract workers will be given ₹5,500 each. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said ₹819 crore from the company’s ₹2,360 crore net profit has been set aside for this purpose.

The Congress-led Telangana government has announced a festive bonus for nearly 71,000 Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) employees and workers for Dasara.

As many as 41,000 permanent workers will receive ₹1,95,610 each, while 30,000 contract workers will get ₹5,500 each, up from ₹5,000 last year. SCCL, a state-owned coal mining corporation, is among the biggest contributors to India’s coal production.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu in Hyderabad on Monday, 22 September.

A profitable venture

Presenting Singareni’s financial performance, the Chief Minister said the company had earned a total profit of ₹6,394 crore (after taxes), of which ₹4,034 crore has been earmarked for future investments.

Net profits stood at ₹2,360 crore, and 34 percent of this amount—about ₹819 crore—has been set aside for payment of bonuses to permanent workers.

“The struggles of Singareni workers during the Telangana movement will never be overlooked. Their role was historic, and our government will always recognise it,” Revanth declared, praising the workers for steering the company towards profitability and reiterating the government’s resolve to share SCCL’s gains with them.

The Chief Minister further said Singareni would be strengthened to compete with corporate giants. Responding to workers’ concerns about coal blocks handed over to private companies, he assured:

“If private participation keeps growing, Singareni’s very survival will come to a halt. We will raise this issue with the Centre and strive to bring the mines back under Singareni’s control.”

Pledge to recover lost coal blocks

On the state’s fiscal health, the Chief Minister criticised the Union government for reducing Telangana’s revenues through changes in GST.

“The Centre’s GST revision has cost the state nearly ₹7,000 crore. We demand immediate compensation for this loss,” Revanth said.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the state was actively working to reclaim two coal blocks lost under the previous government’s tenure. He stressed that the government’s top priority was to safeguard both the workers’ interests and Singareni’s long-term viability.
