Synopsis: Following the announcement by the AICC regarding the expansion of the state cabinet, several Telangana Congress leaders have expressed dissatisfaction over their exclusion. Party leaders are engaged in efforts to pacify them.
Moments before the much-anticipated Telangana Cabinet expansion on Sunday, 8 June, high-level Congress leaders scrambled to contain internal unrest as several senior MLAs expressed dissatisfaction over not being included in the new cabinet lineup.
All India Congress Committee (AIIC) in-charge for Telangana, Meenakshi Natarajan, and Telangana Congress president Mahesh Kumar Goud, accompanied by Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Chief Minister’s adviser Vem Narender Reddy, and MP Anil Yadav, rushed to the residence of MLA Sudarshan Reddy in an attempt to placate him.
Sources say Sudarshan Reddy is visibly upset over the cabinet composition and is not alone in his discontent. Earlier, first-time MLAs G Vivek Venkatswamy, Adluri Laxman Kumar, and Vakiti Srihari Mudiraj were named by the AICC to be included in the state cabinet.
Other prominent Congress MLAs, including Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, Prem Sagar Rao, and Malreddy Ranga Reddy, are also said to be fuming over being left out of the cabinet expansion.
In a brief media interaction, Mahesh Kumar Goud confirmed that three more members will soon be inducted into the cabinet.
“The cabinet formation is being carried out with a commitment to social justice. We are grateful to Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge for guiding this process,” he said, also hinting that there are still chances for leaders from influential social groups to find a place in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy attended the swearing-in ceremony of the new ministers at the Raj Bhavan.
Top Congress leadership is continuing backchannel negotiations in a bid to prevent a public fallout, even as the cabinet expansion aims to reflect regional balance and social inclusivity.
The Telangana Cabinet should ideally have 18 ministers, of which six positions were vacant. With the inclusion of three more now, three spots still remain open.
