Eatala Rajender

The Telangana government has enhanced the protection accorded to BJP MLA Eatala Rajender by providing ‘Y’ category security, with additional police personnel and a bulletproof vehicle.

The move came three days after Rajender’s wife Jamuna alleged that a conspiracy had been hatched to kill her husband.

The beefed-up security comes into force from Saturday, 1 July.

The decision to increase Rajender’s security detail was taken after assessing the threat perception to him by the Intelligence Security Wing (ISW) of the Telangana Police.

A team of cops led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Rao visited the house of Rajender in Shamirpet on Friday and assessed the situation.

The team checked all the entry and exit points connecting Rajender’s house and submitted a report to the ISW, which decided to increase his security after getting permission from the state government.

The allegations

On 27 June, Jamuna alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to kill her husband.

“We came to know that BRS MLC Padi Kaushik Reddy is conspiring to kill my husband, and a supari (contract to kill) of ₹20 crore has been offered for it,” she told reporters in Hyderabad.

“We are not scared of anyone. We suspect that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is behind Kaushik Reddy,” she said, adding that the people would teach a fitting lesson to the chief minister with their votes.

Jamuna also said that KCR was using Kaushik Reddy against the people of Huzurabad, who extended their full cooperation to Rajender during the Assembly by-elections and helped him register a thumping victory.

With the support of KCR, Kaushik Reddy was committing atrocities in the Huzurabad Assembly constituency, she said.

“The chief minister should be held responsible if any harm is caused to anyone in our family,” said Jamuna.

At a separate press conference at his residence in Shamirpet three days ago, Rajender said he was being threatened for the last six months, and being told to be “careful”.

He said: “I am not afraid of such threats. I was also not scared of slain gangster Nayeemudin alias Nayeem.”

And the denial

Soon after Jamuna’s press conference, Kaushik Reddy dismissed the allegations levelled against him as a “joke”.

The BRS leader asked Rajender if he was ready for a debate in Huzurabad to prove the allegations, even as he said the leader’s wife spoke only lies about him.

Reddy, in fact, flipped the allegation. “Rajender attempted to kill me in 2018,” he said.

He demanded that Rajender’s wife Jamuna tender an unconditional apology to members of the Mudiraj community  for humiliating them.

He, in turn, levelled allegations against Rajender, asking how a person who did not have a permanent house earlier had constructed a palatial residence on five acres of land.

He also accused the BJP MLA of encroaching on land belonging to Dalits and Backward Classes, and said he would not sleep till he defeated Rajender in the next Assembly elections.
