Asking whether he was a criminal or a terrorist, Union minister and Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy — along with other party leaders — sat on the road, on Thursday, 20 July, after being stopped by the police from proceeding to inspect a site of the BRS government’s housing scheme for the poor.
Kishan Reddy sat on the road in Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad miffed at being prevented from heading to the housing site.
“Am I a criminal? Am I a terrorist? I have a right to go anywhere in India,” Kishan Reddy told Rachakonda Commissioner of Police DS Chauhan, who tried to persuade the Union minister and other leaders to vacate the place.
Kishan Reddy was later physically lifted by police and taken away from the place to a vehicle.
He had announced a plan to visit the state government’s two-bedroom housing site at Batasingaram in Hyderabad.
Kishan Reddy had earlier condemned the “house arrest” of BJP leaders by police in view of the planned visit to the site.
The house arrest or preventive custody of several party leaders before the inspection by Kishan Reddy had left the cadre fuming.
Even as the senior leaders were gearing up to proceed towards Batasingaram, the police patrolling vehicles came to their houses and restricted them from visiting the project site.
Several leaders including BJP MLA Eatala Rajender and former MLC N Ramachandra Rao were kept under house arrest while most of them were taken into preventive custody.
In a tweet, Kishan Reddy said, “The house-arrest of @BJP4Telangana leaders ahead of the visit to the housing construction site at Batasingaram Village in R R dist, Telangana is highly condemnable. It yet again exposes the tyrannical rule under BRS. High-handedness and muzzling of opposition voice have become the hallmark of KCR govt,” Reddy tweeted on Thursday morning.

According to party sources, a 60-member delegation led by Kishan Reddy along with the present and former MLAs and MPs were supposed to visit Batasingaram to inspect the ongoing two-bedroom project. But the police foiled their attempts.
In a statement, Hyderabad Central OBC Morcha General Secretary Keshaboina Sridhar said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao succeeded in constructing Pragathi Bhavan in two years but for the last nine years he was unable to complete the construction of the 2BHK flats meant for the poor.
“When the state government claims that it is constructing 2BHK flats on a large-scale, then why is it resorting to house arrest and preventive custody of our leaders?” he asked.
“We are not indulging in any agitation or rebellion. We are going to inspect the project site. For that, the BRS government is resorting to repressive measures with the help of police,” Sridhar said.
The BJP already started its fight against the BRS government and it will continue till the chief minister was dethroned from the post during the next Assembly elections in Telangana.
