Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A Revanth Reddy said on Monday, 21 August, that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had conceded defeat by stating that he would be contesting from both Gajwel and Kamareddy constituencies in the upcoming state Assembly elections.

The TPCC leader, reacting to the BRS’ list of 115 candidates for elections to the 119-member Assembly, said that after going through the list it became clear that the Congress was on its way to capturing power in the state.

“The Congress will steamroll to power with a two-thirds majority,” Revanth Reddy said.

‘KCR will lose both seats’

Speaking to media persons, he said that KCR was sure to lose the election in both Gajwel and Kamareddy.

“If KCR wanted to flee, he had Siddipet and Sircilla, both of which are sure seats. But he chose to contest from Kamarreddy knowing fully well that the Congress would field a minority leader. This only shows how much regard he has for minorities,” he said.

He lashed out at KCR for saying that the Congress had not done anything for the state in 50 years.

“Who had constructed projects like Nagarjuna Sagar? KCR himself had said that there were 12,500 village panchayats in the state. But who had given them the power supply? Wasn’t it the Congress?” he asked.

He said in KCR’s native village of Chintamadaka, it was the Congress that built the school and supplied power to his house.

‘Congress built outer ring road, metro rail’

“It was the Congress that had built the outer ring road and the metro rail. Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao on the other hand was trying to construct metro along with the outer ring road only to push up the prices of the nearby lands,” he alleged.

If the Congress constructed metro for the poor, the BRS was bringing in metro for giving a fillip to the real estate business, he said.

“The BRS leader should hang his head in shame for asking what the Congress had done so far,” he said and wondered whether this was the wisdom that he got by reading 80,000 books, which he claimed.

Revanth Reddy said he was ready for a debate on what the Congress had done for Telangana.

“Let us also discuss what was the kind of progress that KCR had brought about with ₹23 lakh crore,” he added.
