A 34-year-old software engineer from Uttar Pradesh was found dead in his flat in Bengaluru’s Marathahalli area.
In a 24-page suicide note and an hour-long video, the deceased, Atul Subhash, blamed harassment by his estranged wife, her family, and a “corrupt” judiciary in Uttar Pradesh for his death.
The suicide note named his wife Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha Singhania, brother Anurag Singhania, and a few others for pushing him to take the extreme step. He also accused a judge and a few court staff in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, of accepting bribes to target him.
“My name is Atul Subhash,” the death note began. “I am writing this suicide note in sound disposing mind… I am committing suicide today due to explicit instigation, harassment, extortion, and corruption,” it continued.
In a letter addressed to his young son Vyom, Subhash expressed feelings of despair and helplessness. “When I first saw you, I thought I could give my life for you any day. But sadly, I am giving my life because of you,” he wrote.
The man accused his wife and the system of using his child as a tool for extortion, stating, “I can sacrifice 100 sons like you for my father… but I will not let my family suffer.”
Subhash also recorded a video in which he elaborated on his struggles, saying, “What I am earning now, I am helping my enemies become stronger. My money is being used to destroy me. The tax I pay on my salary is helping the police and the legal system harass me and my family.”
He claimed his decision to take his own life stemmed from despair and the advice of those who suggested suicide as the “right solution.”
The Whitefield police received a distress call via the 112 helpline on Monday, 9 December. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Subhash hanging in his locked apartment with a placard reading “Justice is due” attached to his body.
DCP Whitefield Shivakumar confirmed the incident and stated that the police had registered a case. “It was a family issue between the husband and wife, with a case ongoing in Uttar Pradesh. He left a detailed note and video before ending his life,” the officer said.
The deceased man’s brother has filed a formal complaint against the individuals named in the note, prompting the police to initiate an investigation. The postmortem was conducted on Tuesday, but the authorities have not yet questioned Subhash’s wife or her family.
Subhash was reportedly embroiled in multiple legal cases filed by his wife, including a domestic violence case in Uttar Pradesh.
