Tamil Nadu records highest GSDP growth in 2024-25; Karnataka records 2nd highest per capita income

Synopsis: Tamil Nadu has achieved double-digit Gross State Domestic Product growth in real terms, clocking an impressive 11.19 percent growth rate during 2024–25. Karnataka recorded a per capita income of 2,04,605 at constant prices in 2024-25.

After more than a decade, Tamil Nadu has achieved double-digit Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth in real terms, clocking an impressive 11.19 percent growth rate during 2024–25, according to the revised estimates released by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

This marks the state’s highest growth rate since 2010–11, and the first time it has crossed the 10 percent mark since the base year revision to 2011–12. The GSDP at constant (2011–12) prices rose from ₹15.6 lakh crore in 2023–24 to ₹17.3 lakh crore in 2024–25.

Meanwhile, Karnataka recorded a per capita income of 2,04,605 at constant prices in 2024-25, second only to Delhi (2,83,093).

The growth in Tamil Nadu

The growth spurt comes amid a broader national trend of economic recovery, but Tamil Nadu stands out as one of the fastest-growing large states, outpacing others like Maharashtra (7.27%), Karnataka (7.37%), and Uttar Pradesh (8.99%). Maharashtra’s GSDP stands at ₹26.1 lakh crore and Uttar Pradesh at ₹1.58 lakh crore

Among other South Indian states, Andhra Pradesh’s GSDP stood at ₹8.6 lakh crore (8.21%), Karnataka at ₹15.7 lakh crore (7.37%), Kerala at ₹6.8 lakh crore (6.19%) and Telangana 8.3 lakh crore (8.08%)

Tamil Nadu recorded a per capita income of 1,97,746, Andhra Pradesh 1,41,609, Kerala 173817, and Telangana 1,92,128.
