Srinivas Goud Kavitha

Lending moral support to BRS MLC and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha, Telangana Prohibition and Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud on Tuesday, 21 March, said that all the allegations against her, including the one that she had destroyed her cell-phones, were baseless.

Kavitha is being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over her alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor scam.

Gould told reporters in Delhi that Kavitha had produced all the cell phones she had used in the past, as asked by the ED.

“She has been saying she had nothing to do with the Delhi liquor scam. She said she had all the phones with her. She produced them today,” Srinivas Goud said.

‘BJP using ED’

Arguing that Kavitha was as clean as a whistle, he alleged that the BJP was using the ED against her because it was unable to face KCR, as he had been rising on the national scene as a potential threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The ED has been harassing Kavitha, ignoring the fact that she was a woman, though she had been cooperating with it by producing whatever documents asked for, Goud said.

He said the ED had become so proactive in regard to the “₹100 crore liquor scam” that it was surprising, especially at a time when several corporate honchos had bled public sector banks dry by looting them and fleeing the country.

“There is no investigation into these scams. No one pays any attention when Adani rigs the prices of the shares of his companies or industrialist Mallya and his ilk siphon off thousands of crores of rupees of people’s money from banks,” he said.

‘ED is cooking up stories’

Srinivas Goud wanted to know how ED could dream that Kavitha had destroyed her phones without questioning or speaking to her when they filed a charge sheet in a Delhi court in November.

Interestingly, the ED questioned her only recently, which meant that the claim of the destruction of cell phones was a cock-and-bull story, he said.

He wanted to know what Union Minister G Kishan Reddy would say now, in the wake of Kavitha surrendering her cell phones.

The Central minister had alleged that Kavitha was a culprit in the scam and destroyed her phones to get off the hook.

‘Think twice’

He advised Kishan Reddy to think twice before making allegations against a woman, that too one who had fought valiantly for Telangana.

Kishan Reddy had spoken in a way that lowered her image, and the attack on Kavitha was deliberate and very calibrated, said Goud.

He said the ED had harassed Kavitha by making her sit in a room for hours together without asking her any questions while some news channels which had their own axes to grind kept spinning stories that Kavitha’s chickens coming home to roost.

“The BJP should go after those who are trying to plunder the country and not use the investigation agencies to settle political scores with KCR,” Goud added.

Those who were present at the news conference included BRS MPs Venkatesh Netha and Badugula Lingayya Yadav, MLAs Bajireddy, Ganesh Gupta, A Venkateswar Reddy, and party general secretary Soma Bharat.
