Synopsis: A stampede-like situation broke out during Malayalam rapper Vedan’s concert in Kasaragod. The rush occurred near the festival venue, leading to around 15 people, including children, being hospitalised with injuries. Two young men were reportedly hit by a train near the railway track close to the venue, and one of them died during treatment.
A stampede-like situation broke out during Malayalam rapper Vedan’s concert at the Bekal Beach Festival in the Kasaragod district of Kerala late on Monday, 29 December, triggering panic among the crowd. The rush occurred near the festival venue, leading to around 15 people, including children, being hospitalised with injuries.
Amid the chaos, two young men were reportedly hit by a train near the railway track close to the venue. One of them, identified as Sihvanand (19), died during treatment.
The chaos ensued at around 9.30 pm on Monday. Ambulances were rushed to the spot, and the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police and emergency services quickly intervened to manage the situation and prevent further mishaps. The concert was organised near Bekal Park as part of the Bekal Beach Festival.
The programme was organised at a venue adjacent to Bekal Park. Vedan allegedly arrived for the event much later than the scheduled time, by which point a large crowd had already gathered at the location.
There were also reports that a crowd of 25,000 attended the event, including several people without tickets. Later, several people suffocated in the unprecedented crowd, and some fainted. With this, the authorities ordered the event to be stopped.
