Revanth Reddy seeks support from Narendra Modi for a host of projects in Telangana
Synopsis : Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met with the Prime Minister in Delhi to discuss issues, including the Phase-II Metro Rail project, which proposes five corridors at ₹24,269 crore. He also sought approval for pending projects, additional IPS officers, and the Southern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR), offering to cover 50 percent of land acquisition costs
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, on Wednesday, 26 February, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant approval for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II, a project aimed at connecting all areas within the Hyderabad metropolitan region.
During his meeting with the prime minister at his official residence in Delhi, the chief minister highlighted that the previous government had neglected the expansion of the Metro Rail network during its decade-long tenure. Revanth Reddy outlined the Phase-II project, which proposes five corridors spanning 76.4 kilometers at an estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore and requested immediate approval to commence the work.
In his representation, the chief minister also discussed various state-related issues, including pending projects and the need for additional IPS officers. He appealed to the prime minister to expedite the sanctioning of the Southern Part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR), noting that 90 percent of land acquisition for the Northern Part has already been completed.
Revanth Reddy emphasised that the RRR’s full potential can only be realised if both the Southern and Northern segments are developed simultaneously. He assured the prime minister that the state government is prepared to bear 50 percent of the land acquisition costs for the Southern Part.
The chief minister also proposed the development of a Regional Ring Rail project parallel to the RRR, which would enhance railway connectivity across Telangana and neighbouring states. He urged the prime minister to grant approval for this initiative.
Given Telangana’s landlocked status, Revanth Reddy also requested the establishment of a Dry Port near the Regional Ring Road to facilitate the export and import of goods. He further proposed a Greenfield road and rail line to connect the Dry Port to a seaport, seeking the prime minister’s support for the project.
Revanth Reddy also sought the Centre’s assistance for the Musi River Rejuvenation Project, highlighting the river’s cultural and spiritual significance to Telangana. He requested ₹20,000 crore in financial support for the project, which includes the development of Bapu Ghat at the confluence of the Isa and Musi rivers, the construction of 27 sewage treatment plants (STPs) for Musi purification, and the creation of retaining walls and embankments.
The project also aims to link the Musi and Godavari rivers. The chief minister further appealed for the transfer of 222.7 acres of defence land for the Gandhi Sarovar project.
Addressing the shortage of IPS officers in the state, Revanth Reddy highlighted the rising challenges of cybercrime, drug trafficking, and the increasing number of urban areas. He noted that Telangana was allocated 61 IPS cadre posts after the state’s bifurcation, with an additional 15 posts sanctioned in 2015. The chief minister requested the prime minister to approve 29 more IPS posts to meet the state’s growing needs.
Revanth Reddy also appealed for the establishment of the India Semiconductor Mission in Telangana, citing the state’s favourable conditions for the semiconductor industry. The chief minister was accompanied by State IT and Industry Minister D. Sridhar Babu during the meeting.
