TPCC president A Revanth Reddy on Monday, 6 November, made an emotional appeal to the voters of the Kodangal Assembly constituency in the Vikarabad district to elect him with a majority exceeding that of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in Kanakapura.
The TPCC president made the appeal before filing his nomination papers.
He made no mention of the speculation that he would also be contesting from Kamareddy against Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
“Karnataka PCC president DK Shivakumar led the Congress to a sensational victory. He got a majority of 1.22 lakh votes in his Kanakapura constituency. I want you to give me a majority more than that,” he said.
He said that the PCC president’s post he has been holding belonged to the people. “It is yours and it is meant for you. The people of this Kodangal constituency are going to lead the state this time,” he said.
He recalled KCR winning the election to Lok Sabha from Mahabubnagar, of which Kodangal is a part, in 2009. The win allowed him to boast that he could get a separate Telangana state. KCR then had no support. Everyone was neglecting him.
“But the people of Kodangal took pity on you and sent you to the Lok Sabha. Now it has been 10 years since you became the chief minister, but what have you done for this constituency?” Revanth Reddy asked.
He said the people of Kodangal would see the return of its halcyon days. “I promise you that I will see that you get priority wherever you go on any work in any state or Delhi. If you say that you are from Kodangal, your work will be done on priority. I will take this as my responsibility” he said.
The TPCC president said that the Kodangal contest would be a fight for jobs for the youths. “These elections are going to be the defining moment not only for this constituency but for the entire Telangana state. He recalled fighting for the people of Kodangal in the Assembly in the past and how his successor had let them down.
“Did the one who was elected from Kodangal to the Assembly in 2018 on a BRS ticket ever raise his voice in the Assembly on your behalf?” he asked.
He appealed to the voters to take the lead in the electoral battle in Kodangal and see that the Congress flag fluttered high in the constituency.
“As the PCC president, I have to visit all the 119 Assembly segments. You have to take the responsibility of fighting this battle on my behalf,” he said and claimed that everyone in Kodangal was a PCC president and that they all had blessed him to seek election.
“Even though I had lost the election from Kodangal in 2018, you have not forsaken me. You were with me through thick and thin. The BRS, which has done nothing for this constituency, is asking for your votes. How can they do that?” he said.
Revanth Reddy appealed to the people to remain united. “If we are divided, we will fall. That will be our end,” he said while assuring that he would do his best to get Krishna waters to Kodangal constituency and set up a nursing college.
Earlier in the day, Revanth Reddy set out for Kodangal from his residence in Jubilee Hills after taking the blessings of Vedic scholars.
After reaching Kodangal by helicopter, he went to Shivalayam in the town where he offered a special puja.
After addressing a public meeting, he then went to the MRO office with a limited number of party leaders and filed his nomination papers.
