IIM-K will host the brainstorming session on 4 and 5 September.
Synopsis: The workshop will bring together Keralam’s political leadership, IIM faculty and national and international experts to deliberate on the major challenges and opportunities that could shape the state’s future. The discussions will cover a wide range of subjects, including leadership in the age of artificial intelligence, climate resilience, community-based disaster management, public health, an ageing population and the emerging ‘silver economy’.
The entire State Cabinet, led by Chief Minister V DSatheesan, will spend the next two days at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode for a special leadership workshop to chart the state’s long-term development path.
Titled ‘Reimagining Keralam’, the two-day programme will be held at the IIM Kozhikode campus on Friday and Saturday (4 & 5 September).
The workshop will bring together Keralam’s political leadership, IIM faculty and national and international experts to deliberate on the major challenges and opportunities that could shape the state’s future.
The discussions will cover a wide range of subjects, including leadership in the age of artificial intelligence, climate resilience, community-based disaster management, public health, an ageing population and the emerging ‘silver economy’.
Keralam’s economic and financial foundations, employment generation, entrepreneurship, skill development, excellence in higher education and the prospects of positioning the state as a global brand will also come under discussion.
Experts from Keio University in Japan and King’s College, London, will join IIM faculty in leading various sessions.
A special session on health and well-being will feature Dr Aravind Srinivasan, Chief Medical Officer and Director-Projects of Aravind Eye Care System, and Dr Devi Shetty, Chairman of Narayana Health.
According to IIMK Director Prof Debashish Chatterjee, the programme is intended to provide the state leadership an opportunity to step away from the pressures of day-to-day administration and engage in collective thinking on the long-term transformations facing Keralam.
He identified population ageing, the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, climate change, changing patterns of migration and remittances, and mounting fiscal pressures among the key challenges confronting the state.
Unlike a conventional classroom-based training programme, ‘Reimagining Keralam’ will focus on discussions and interaction between policymakers and experts.
This is the second time IIM Kozhikode is organising a dedicated leadership programme for the Keralam Cabinet.
In 2011, the institute had conducted a one-day leadership and management programme for the Cabinet led by the late former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
