Synopsis: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired a high-level security review meeting, a day after a car explosion near the Red Fort killed eight people and injured several others. The meeting reportedly discussed possible links between the blast and the seizure of a cache of explosives from a residence in Faridabad earlier the same day. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, 11 November, chaired a high-level security review meeting at his residence in New Delhi, a day after a powerful explosion outside the historic Red Fort killed eight people and injured several others.
The meeting, which began around 11.30 am, was attended by senior officials from various central agencies, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Delhi Police. Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not attend the meeting as he is currently on a two-day state visit to Bhutan.
The discussion focused on the progress of the investigation into Monday evening’s blast, ANI reported, citing unnamed sources. Officials reportedly also discussed a possible link between the explosion and the seizure of a large cache of explosives from Faridabad earlier the same day.
A Kashmiri doctor serving as faculty at Al-Falaha University in Faridabad, from whose residence the weapons were seized, was arrested. According to Faridabad Police, he was also wanted in connection with putting up posters supporting the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his first public address since the explosion, said at a gathering at Changlimithanga Stadium in Bhutan that “all those responsible will be brought to justice.”
“The horrific blast in Delhi last evening has deeply pained everyone. India stands with those who have suffered. I assure everyone that the agencies will get to the bottom of the entire conspiracy. All those involved will be brought to justice,” he said.

A day earlier, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi expressed grief over the loss of lives.
“The news of the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station is extremely heartbreaking and concerning. The report of the deaths of several innocent people in this tragic incident is profoundly sorrowful,” he wrote on X.
“In this hour of grief, I stand with the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones and express my deepest condolences to them. I hope for the swift recovery of all the injured.”
Similarly, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge called for a prompt and thorough investigation.
“The government must ensure a prompt and thorough investigation into this blast which has taken place in a high-security and often crowded area, so that those responsible for this lapse and incident are held accountable,” he wrote in a post on X.
The Red Fort, which attracts thousands of visitors daily, has been closed to the public for three days as teams from the National Investigation Agency, the National Security Guard and the Forensic Science Laboratory join the Delhi Police in collecting samples and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby roads and metro stations.
Although there has been no official word on the cause of the explosion, Home Minister Amit Shah said late on Monday that a multi-agency probe was “exploring all possibilities.”
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have registered several cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Delhi) Raja Banthia said no shrapnel had been recovered from the site so far.
“Investigations have been initiated and multiple specialised teams from the Delhi Police, the Forensic Science Laboratory and the National Security Guard are present at the crime scene, lifting evidence to help the investigation,” he told ANI.
“We cannot comment on anything conclusively until we have hard facts. The investigation is in its preliminary stages.”
Providing more details about the incident, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said the explosion occurred after a slow-moving Hyundai i20 car stopped at a traffic signal near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station.
