Prime Volleyball League: Tamil Nadu continue to bank on Chennai Blitz in season 2

The Chennai Blitz will play their first match on against Kochi Blue Spikers from neighbouring Kerala.

Chennai Blitz team will represent Tamil Nadu in the second edition of men’s RuPay Prime Volleyball League (PVL) powered by A23.

The league, which started on 4 February in Bengaluru, features eight teams as compared to seven in the debut season. Mumbai Meteors is the addition this season.

PVL is scheduled to held at three venues across the country, with matches starting at 7 pm and 9:30 pm.

These venues are the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru, GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad, and the Regional Sports Centre in Kochi.

Defending champions Kolkata Thunderbolts started their campaign against the Bengaluru Torpedos in the first game of the PVL.

The live coverage of the PVL can be seen on Sony Sports Ten 1 (English), Sony Sports Ten 3 (Hindi), Sony Sports Ten 4 (Tamil & Telugu) and Sony Sports Ten 2 (Malayalam) channels.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Uhdayanidhi Stalin had unveiled the jersey of the Chennai Blitz team recently.

A look at Chennai Blitz

The Chennai Blitz, which stood sixth last season, will open its campaign on 6 February, Monday, at 7 pm against Kochi Blue Spikers (seventh last season).

Chennai Blitz has roped in Brazilian attacker Renato Mendes and Cameroon star Moyo Audran from the international players draft to bolster their squad.

The Blitz’s Indian contingent of Mohamed Riyazudeen, Ramanathan R, Prasanna Raja AA, Raman Kumar, Tushar Laware, YV Sita Rama Raju and Jobin Varghese are also ready to prove their mettle in this season.

At a press meet in Chennai on Monday co-owner of the team Y Vikranth Reddy told reporters they have invited fans from all over the country to come and support the Chennai team in their journey to victory.

Announcing Naveen Raja Jacob as the captain of the Chennai Blitz side, Reddy added, “With a strong squad and a determined team, we are confident in our ability to bring home the win. Don’t miss out on the action-packed matches of Chennai Blitz and be a part of the PVL Season 2.”

Another co-owner of Chennai Blitz, Hanimi Reddy, said the team has been trained by Ruben Velachi who is a coach of international repute.

“The team has been training well and it is confident of registering a victory in the upcoming league,” he added.

CEO of Chennai Blitz Kiran Kumar said the team members of Chennai Blitz comprise Moyo Audran, Renato Mendes, Mohamed Riyazudeen, Ramanathan R, Prasanna Raja AA, Raman Kumar, Tushar Laware, Y V Sita Rama Raju, Jobin Varughese, Abdul Mugni Chishti, Naveen Raja Jacob, Akhin GS, and Pinamma Prashant.

Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of the team Thulasi Reddy opined that the game of Volleyball has garnered a great deal of publicity. “We expect events like the PVL  to make the sport even more popular. Hope we would be able to produce players who can prove their mettle in the international events,” Thulasi said.
