Bageerath with Minister Bandi Sanjay

Synopsis: Interestingly, hours before the registration of this FIR at Pet Basheerabad police station on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Bageerath lodged a complaint with the police in Karimnagar town, his native place. Sanjay represents the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency. In his complaint to the SHO of Two Town police station in Karimnagar, Sanjay’s son named the minor girl and her parents, accusing them of intimidation and extortion.

In a shocking development, Telangana police registered an FIR under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the son of Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay based on a complaint filed by a minor girl alleging sexual assault.

The episode came to light a day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Hyderabad on Sunday, 10 May, to address a public meeting.

The complaint against Bandi Sai Bageerath was that the girl, aged around 17, was made to consume alcohol and then sexually assaulted at a farmhouse on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Reportedly, this happened twice.

A senior police officer confirmed registration of FIR under Section 74 and 75 of BNS and Section 11/12 of the POCSO Act.

Unconfirmed reports suggested that the police initially were reluctant to register an FIR but did so when the parents of the girl threatened that they would approach the court if they failed to do so. However, full details of the complaint and the FIR are yet to emerge, and the story shall be updated as and when we get more information.

BJP insiders say that the case could also be a fallout of the internal rivalries within the party. Sanjay’s group believes that the BJP leaders inimical to him, encouraged the girl and her parents to lodge the police complaint. The Union Minister’s son’s conduct has, of course, come under a cloud even in the past.

Bageerath’s complaint

Interestingly, hours before the registration of this FIR at Pet Basheerabad police station on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Bageerath lodged a complaint with the police in Karimnagar town, his native place. Sanjay represents the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency.

In his complaint to the SHO of Two Town police station in Karimnagar, Sanjay’s son named the minor girl and her parents, accusing them of intimidation and extortion.

According to this complaint, Bageerath claimed that he came in contact with the girl through his friends and over a period developed a friendly relationship with her. “Under the guise of friendship and social association, we were invited to their family functions. Me and my friends even travelled with them to spiritual locations.”

According to Bageerath, after a period of time, the girl’s parents began pressurising him to marry her and, on his refusal, they had threatened to file a criminal complaint. Out of fear, he gave them ₹50,000 once, but the parents demanded ₹5 crore. “They have been continuously subjecting me to mental harassment and coercion,” Bageerath claimed.

He also alleged that some of his friends had similar issues with the girl and her parents before and even lodged a complaint with the police in the neighbouring Adilabad district in April, 2026.

Bageerath urged the police to conduct an investigation into threats of intimidation and extortion and provide protection to him.

The controversy has also revived attention around Bageerath’s earlier appearance in a widely circulated video linked to an alleged assault incident involving students at Mahindra University.
