Facilities to be ensured

Apart from the modernisation of stations, the government would ensure proper cleanliness at stations, waiting rooms, toilets, lifts, escalators and free Wi-Fi, executive lounge for holding business meetings and signages to provide train information.

To ensure proper recognition of products manufactured locally, shops in the name of “one-station-one product” would be established.

In addition, the Union government has already taken up the modernisation of the Secunderabad station at a cost of ₹715 crore to meet passengers’ requirements for the next 40 years. The Union government also allocated ₹221 crore for the Cherlapally terminal.

Raghunandhan Rao ridicules KTR’s statement

At a separate press conference in Hyderabad on Tuesday, 1 August, BJP MLA M Raghunandhan Rao ridiculed the announcement made by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao that metro rail would be expanded all along 159-km along with ₹60,000 crore.

The minister made the announcement after the completion of the state Cabinet meeting at the secretariat on Monday.

“How can the state government take up the expansion of the metro rail when it failed to complete the 5.5-km line from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) to Falaknuma in the last nine years?” he asked.

“At the same time, the state government failed to construct the airport extension works even after laying the foundation stone,” he said, alleging that the minister’s decision was aimed at benefiting the real-estate companies that allegedly supported the ruling party family.

Meanwhile, the Telangana BJP leadership has decided to hold the ‘Maha Dharna’ that was postponed earlier due to inclement weather on 5 August to protest against the state government’s inordinate delay in allocating 2BKH flats to beneficiaries across the state.
