Padma awards: Karnataka’s Anke Gowda, Kerala’s Kollakkayil Devaki Amma among unsung heroes

While Anke Gowda has been honoured for his contribution to literature and education, Krishnan got the recognition for his contribution to art. Devaki Amma of Muthukulam in the Alappuzha district has been selected for the Padma Shri 2026 for her remarkable service in the field of environmental conservation.

Synopsis: The Padma awards — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri — are among India’s highest civilian honours. The formal investiture ceremony is held later at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Anke Gowda from Karnataka, R Krishnan from Tamil Nadu and Kollakkayil Devaki Amma G from Kerala are among the 45 unsung heroes selected for the Padma Shri.

The Padma Shri is awarded for their distinguished service in various fields.

The Union Government published the list on Sunday, 25 January, on the eve of the Republic Day. The President will present the awards later in March or April.

While Gowda has been honoured for his contribution to literature and education, Krishnan got the recognition for his contribution to art. Devaki Amma of Muthukulam in the Alappuzha district has been selected for the Padma Shri 2026 for her remarkable service in the field of environmental conservation.
