Synopsis: NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar questioned the Maharashtra Revenue Department for allegedly waiving off a ₹94 crore penalty on Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited. He asked whether the fine on the company was waived in December 2022 and whether an order had been issued to return the company’s seized machinery.

NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar questioned the Maharashtra Revenue Department for allegedly waiving off a ₹94 crore penalty on Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL), which was imposed for its illegal activities.

Pawar questioned Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule regarding the “attractive offer of bumper discount along with dumper return” and the kindness towards Megha Engineering.

He asked whether the fine on the company was waived in December 2022 and whether an order had been issued to return the company’s seized machinery.

It should also be noted that Maharashtra is governed by the BJP-led NDA, and MEIL was the highest electoral bond donor for the saffron party.

Questions the revenue minister

Pawar questioned why the revenue department, which takes strict action on ordinary farmers who extract even a little murum for water, roads, or for public works, gave an offer of “bumper discount along with dumper return” for Megha Engineering.

“In another case, even while Megha Engineering was working on the Satara to Mhaswad road in Satara district, when they carried out illegal mining, the local Tehsildar and Sub-Divisional Officer had imposed a fine of ₹105 crores on the company, seized their machinery, and also sealed the bank account, but unfortunately, as soon as the government changed in June 2022, in December 2022, the fine on this company was waived and an order was issued to return the company’s machinery. Is this also true?” Pawar questioned in a post on X.

He further questioned Bawankule regarding the kind of “bond” that was formed between the Revenue Department and Megha Engineering that led to such kindness. Pawar further claimed that he would not be asking these questions without proof.

According to Bawankule, district collectors of Jalna and Parbhani fined MEIL for illegal mineral extraction. Further, the Tehsildar of Khatav Taluka in the Satara district had seized 16 vehicles of MEIL, involved in illegal mineral transport, on 11 August 2022.

MEIL, promoted by Pamireddy Pichi Reddy and PV Krishna Reddy, purchased bonds worth ₹966 crore, of which the highest donation went to the BJP.

MEIL donated about ₹584 crore to the BJP via electoral bonds. ₹195 crore was donated to BRS, and ₹85 crore went to DMK. Others who encashed the electoral bonds donated by MEIL were YSRCP, TDP, Congress, Janta Dal (United), Janata Dal (Secular) and Jana Sena Party.
